Good morning! Deactivated my personal Twitter account yesterday. And deleted the Mastodon fan page on Facebook, along with the temporary account I had created for it ☺️

If you love to read stuff that you already love and know read it on Twitter. If you wanna read random interesting shit. Get onboard!

Google and Facebook are to our human rights and to democracy what Philip Morris is to our health and what Exxon Mobil is to the environment. Until we grasp this fundamental truth we haven’t a snowflake’s chance in hell of either effectively regulating them or funding alternatives.

I'm putting my money where my mouth is, and eating all my money

Stared at Twitter for hours learned nothing. Back at Mastodon for 10 sec...... oh.... hmmm...

Wtf is it with November? Suddenly everyone has to grow facial hair, stop masturbating, and write a novel? Is it just that the year has gone on for SO LONG that there's nothing else for it but to become 17th century ascetic Puritan authors? Can't we just, you know, have a normal month?

Pro tip: If you're in a restaurant or a coffee shop or any other place with a menu of products or services, you're more likely to get what you want if you use words that appear on the menu instead of trying to make stuff up (for example, if the sizes are called 8, 12, 16, and 20 ounce, asking for the "medium" is asking for trouble).

If you're not sure about something, it's always fine to ask questions to get you to a confident order for the thing you want.

Went to a weirdly fun place today. It was an open karaoke bar with people dancing but also with darts and also with arcade machines and pool tables and then there are also private karaoke rooms. It’s like 5 different bar concepts into one.

This instance can be a harbor for people if they're looking to leave other instances. Everyone's welcome as long as you follow the code of conduct, but I'd prefer to invite you personally rather than having open registration. This goes for friends of mine, friends of people who are here, or people we're federating with!

If you want to join, (it would be a good idea for you to know how I operate since I'd be your admin) all you need to do is shoot me a DM and I'll get you set up! :lazerpizza:

Does anyone use a service like hootsuite to post to your Mastodon account?

Before today, I knew: the reason Twitter was originally limited to 140 characters was so it could be transmitted over SMS (which was limited to 1120 bits, or 160 7-bit characters).

TIL: the reason SMS is limited to 160 7-bit characters is because Friedhelm Hillebrand, who was the chairman of the non-voice services committee within the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM), found that a) the average sentence was <160 characters, and b) that matched the average postcard.

Decentralised Twitter means better control for users and administrators.

Want to join a community that is connected to hundreds of others and about a million users? is part of the Mastodon network. A decentralised network of about a million users.

  • Want to reach different segment of about a million users?
  • Getting drowned out by cat videos?
  • Tired of having your posts restricted to get you to buy sponsored posts?
  • Belong to a niche group discussing subject matters like cryptocurrency but Twitter/Facebook seems to be filtering you out?
  • Simply want to have control over your social media followers and profile, and want to be able to move between instances if you didn't like the rules of this instance.

Beginner's guide on Medium

Don't like the rules of this instance and want to create your own instance? Contact the instance admin and I'll help you create your own instance away from here yet still connected for content if you choose to.

Mobile Apps

We don't have our own mobile app yet but being part of a decentralized network also means you can use anyone's app. Here's what we recommend.
